Moana Live Action – Full Trailer (2024) Dwayne Johnson & Auliʻi Cravalho Movie | Disney+
The announcement of a Moana live-action remake marks a surprising break in Disney’s recent trend of remakes in that it is the most recent animated feature to be adaptated for the live-action format.
Prior to this project, the shortest gap between a Disney animated movie’s release and its live-action remake was that of Mulan, with a modest 22 years separating the adaptations. While no release date has been set by Disney yet, or a timeline on when filming will begin, the Moana live-
action remake is not even a decade from its Oscar-nominated original. Disney’s President of Live-Action Production Sean Bailey confirmed that the idea behind the Moana live-action remake is “still early”, but indicated that part of the drive behind it is the studio’s centennial celebration.
With the film coming as Disney ramps up its live-action Lilo & Stitch remake, having cast newcomer Maia Kealoha as Lilo, it seems the studio is similarly keen on better representing Polynesian and Samoan cultures. While audiences await further details on the remake, they can revisit the original Moana streaming on Disney+.
