Hollywood star Angelina Jolie is known as one of the best actors of her time. Having mastered almost every genre, she has given versatile performances throughout her career, whether it’s comedy, romance, drama, or action. Featuring a number of action movies, she has impressed many by performing her own stunts. And she did the same while starring in the action-adventure film series Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and its sequel. While the film received negative reviews, Jolie was praised for her performance in the movie series.
However, followed by the release of Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – The Cradle of Life, the actress reportedly declared that she was no longer interested in portraying the character a third time. The studio decided to reboot the series, which would take over a decade with a new star, who allegedly has 0.06 times the net worth of the former Lara Croft actress.

Alicia Vikander Replaced Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft
Popular series are known for replacing the lead actors featured in their movies. One of the most talked about and popular examples of the same is James Gunn replacing the Superman actor Henry Cavil in DC movies. And now DC Studios’ co-CEO is planning to introduce David Corenswet as the Kryptonian superhero. Something similar followed with the Lara Croft series after Angelina Jolie allegedly refused to reprise the role for a third time.
This led the makers to plan a reboot with a new face that would replace Jolie as Lara Croft. And more than a decade after the release of the sequel, the makers announced the actress who was set to lead the franchise after the Maleficient star. Alicia Vikander was cast in the lead role in the Lara Croft reboot.
The reboot, titled Tomb Raider, was released in 2018 and received pretty decent reviews and box office reception. It made $274 million at the box office, and many even stated that Vikander’s Lara Croft was much better than the Eternals star, as many found her more relatable and endearing. According to Variety, Tomb Raider’s trailer received a massive response on social media as well.
However, despite having a stellar career and giving extremely great performances, her net worth is far less than that of the Wanted actress. While Angelina Jolie has a net worth of $120 million, the Ex Machina star’s net worth stands at $8 million.

What Happened to Alicia Vikander’s Tom Raider Sequel?
Alicia Vikander’s Tom Raider was received very well by the audience, and considering this, the makers had plans to bring her back as Lara Croft in future sequels as well. However, the actress later shared that the sequel to the 2018 action-adventure has been in limbo during a 2022 interview. The halt in production was the result of Amazon’s acquisition of MGM.
She also shared that she cannot say much about it anymore as it’s out of her hands. The studio later revealed that MGM failed to green-light the project in time to retain the rights of the franchise. While it is claimed that the possibility of having a Tom Raider sequel is almost none, several reports also claim that a sequel is in the works, but Vikander might not return to the franchise again.
