Angelina Jolie reportedly rebuffs selling her Chateau Miraval vineyard share to Brad Pitt, countering his attempts to silence her over alleged child abuse claims.
Angelina Jolie is no stranger to a headline-worthy showdown, but her latest legal maneuver over the Chateau Miraval vineyard has raised eyebrows. Brad Pitt, her ex-husband, recently filed court documents claiming Jolie refused to sell her share of the French vineyard because she was being “vindictive” after a custody ruling didn’t pan out her way.
No Grapes of Wrath, But A Stand for Truth
An insider, close to Jolie, debunked this claim, stating that the “Maleficent” actress didn’t cancel the sale because of a custody hiccup. Instead, she stood her ground against Pitt’s attempts to silence her about alleged abuses towards their children.
To jog your memory, Pitt faced accusations of physical abuse and even pouring beer on Jolie during an infamous private flight in 2016. A friend of Jolie pointed out, “The reality is that [he] refused to complete the Miraval sale with Jolie unless she agreed to being silenced about the abuse.”
A whopping $8.5 million was supposedly held back from the payment for the vineyard to coerce Jolie into staying mum. However, sources close to Jolie revealed she declined to sell her share primarily because Pitt allegedly tried to make her sign an NDA restricting her from discussing their infamous flight.
More than a Vineyard at Stake
Jolie’s determination to speak the truth supersedes the potential profits from the $30 million vineyard sale, demonstrating her refusal to let her voice be silenced. The insider continued, “[Pitt] cannot escape from the fact that he verbally and physically assaulted Ms. Jolie and their children—even choking one of the children and striking another.”
A source close to Pitt countered these claims, stating that the NDA was simply standard procedure related to the winery purchase. According to Pitt, it was “not about the family matters” but rather to prevent the disparaging and diminishing of the vineyard’s value post-sale.
Jolie had initially agreed to sell her stake to Pitt post-divorce in 2019, but sold it to Yuri Shefler, owner of vodka brand the Stoli Group, according to a 2021 press release. Pitt’s latest court filings attribute this change of heart to an “adverse custody ruling.”
